mornings with carter
Every weekday morning, I put Sadie on her leash and Carter gets his bookbag and we head off to the school. It’s a nice little walk during which we get to spend a little quality time together. Sometimes talking sometimes not. The last part of the walk is a short trail that goes through the woods to the back of the school field. We walk through the woods then Sadie and I say good bye at the gate and watch as Carter crosses the field to school.
Carter will walk about 5 to 10 feet then turn and wave. Sometimes he blows a kiss. He will do this until he gets all the way onto the main sidewalk along his building. There’s a little thing we do when blowing kisses. The person who is receiving the kiss reaches in the air to catch the kiss and plant it on their face. So this morning Carter was very into this routine.
He walks, waves, walks, waves, blows a kiss, jumps up to catch kiss, walks, waves, walks, waves, walks, blows kiss, jumps to catch kiss….and on for about 3 more times until he’s all the way on the sidewalk. So adorable, and so fleeting.
All I could do was chuckle and hold that moment in my heart and mind. These are the days I cherish.
